Color Analysis

This is an advertisement for the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).  The tagline is "Extinction can't be fixed."  The polar bear is like a broken down car and needs to be repaired.

 

This image mostly consists of black and grey images.  This creates a dismal, depressing setting for the advertisement.  Grey symbolizes sadness and black symbolizes fear and death.  In this case, the fear and death, and thus, extinction, is the focus.

 

The bright white of the polar bear depicts hope.  White reflects light, so it can seem bright.  White also symbolizes youthfulness, which could imply that the polar bear as a species is young and it is not its time to go.

 

The other white aspect in this image is the white light that is coming from the upper left corner.  It is the only light source, and shines directly on the polar bear's face.  The "white light" represents heaven or the afterlife, so having the polar bear facing the light implies that it may die soon.

 

The only color that appears in this advertisement is the green clothing of the repairman.  Green is associated with health and soothing, which pertains to this advertisement because the polar bear needs to be fixed and brought back to health.

This is an advertisement for Taj Tea Trail, and it is one of three images that use the same colors and design for the ad campaign.

 

Orange is a strong, energetic color.  This works well in a tea advertisement because tea is a stimulant when it contains caffeine, so this tea will wake you up and get you energized.

 

Orange is also associated with happiness or contentment.  There are also hints of yellow, which bring about sensations of light and warmth.  The usefulness of this is that the orange color reminds the consumer that tea is warm and brings about happiness.

 

Orange can also make a product seem reasonably priced, which is extremely helpful in advertising.

 

The darker shades of orange help to show the flowing movement throughout the image.  It creates a content feeling in the viewer.

This is an advertisement for Dior mascara featuring Natalie Portman.

 

The background of this advertisement is navy blue.  Navy blue is associated with elegance and sophistication.

 

Navy blue appeals to budget shoppers.  Advertisers will use navy blue to make their products more appealing to consumers on a monetary basis.

 

People retain more information when reading something in blue.  The blue in this advertisement may help consumers remember the product.

 

Navy blue is used throughout the advertisement, i.e. with the backgroud, the nail color, her makeup, and the shadows on her neck are slightly tinted blue.
